Once upon a time, The Captain and The Count, both classically trained musicians, decided to write some dance music. They were bored of the big club anthems and silly dance-pop tunes. One night, they saw a drag performance to Miss Kittin’s “Frank Sinatra.” The sheer absurdity of the song’s vocals and minimalist beats was divine inspiration.
They gave themselves a name: Animated Coochie Wonders, and affectionately referred to themselves as The Coochies. A copy of fruityloops and an overabundance of time led to many late night sessions working on little hooks and shifting beats. They wrote several songs and gave CDs to their friends, but something was missing.
The Coochies needed more. The Coochies wanted to dance, but they also wanted to sing. The Count brought a set of lyrics to a recording session, and the Coochies’ language came to life. Unfortunately, none of the singers they tried could make it through more than a couple of lines without laughing. The Captain moved to New York, and The Count continued his studies. They were in quite a conundrum.
Luckily, a solution came from the unlikeliest of places; the Captain’s roommate and best friend decided to try her hand at the words for a new song called “Very Very Vaginal” and Coochie Galore was born. She brought sensibility to The Count’s offbeat words, and an ability to fit them to whatever beats The Captain created. Somewhat melodic, and somewhat spoken, she worked her way around the lyrics and brought her own beautiful style to them.
Things kicked into high gear with the purchase of a vintage drum machine and a seemingly endless stream of lyrics from The Count. With their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks, they began recording vocals for the old songs, and writing new beats. But something was still missing in Coochie Galore’s vocals. They seemed only a base for the melody the Count could hear on top. But that melody needed to rock in a way that the drippingly sultry stylings of Miss Galore didn’t provide.
Thus the Animated Coochie Wonders’ own Coochie Suprême came to be. She was able to hear the disjunct melodies The Count had in his head, and a new style was born. Hovering somewhere between electro, disco, punk and straight house music, the Animated Coochie Wonders are terrifically offbeat, immediately danceable, and annoyingly catchy.
Poised to take the world by storm and ready to convert the masses to the thrills of the Coochie, they built a website and began rehearsing their live set. The time has come and the world must know:
The Coochies are Here!!
